Guyana Police lack the policy framework to deal with dogs …
– Consultant says proper training needed in the security sector
“Dogs are a good thing to have in any military or police, but they do not work by themselves . This statement has begun responding to the recent police sniffer dogs fiasco. The interviewee is a security consultant on the deployment and training of military and police dogs, and he himself has trained several dogs for security forces in the region.
Last month, breaches of airport security have been charged to the dogs run by the police who said, “their dog is too old or are not qualified to detect drugs plush Inside the suitcases. “
Noting that these dogs are being purchased, the consultant said the best way for police to acquire dogs is to buy them through a well informed seller, and the best place to get police dogs, is a European country. This is done by the United States and Canada.
Explaining the rationale behind, he said there are laws and regulations applicable to these countries where these canines are involved. For example, when the time comes around livestock, dogs must be facilitated, or legal action may be taken with the fact that dogs can not be “too high”. This control ensures strict weeding genetic problems to a marked degree.
However, countries in Europe do not sell dogs in third world countries, unless they can obtain a guarantee that the dogs are properly raised.
The consultant noted that dog trainers committed abroad by the Guyana Police said some unflattering things about the Guyana Police Force in the international press. Thus, it will be difficult if the GPF is trying to buy dogs internationally, without a good broker.
The question this raises today is where the GPF will get the dogs as they prepare to purchase as announced by the Police Commissioner last month?
In general, the GPF has received mostly dogs goodwill gifts in Guyana, who can not work. They have received dogs as gifts from the British.
It seems that regardless of how the police are collecting the donations, “based on my observations, and what I know about them and what they brought the expert said, the police are not part of policy of keeping dogs under way to train people to train dogs, train people to certify the dogs, “said the consultant.
He stressed that the policy documents for the military and the police should have articles about dogs.
/> The security legislation in Guyana does not like dogs, but in all other security legislation abroad, or a subsidiary documents, they assert that the handlers should be trained to level 3 .
In one case, the dog was two months in training, when a program was implemented which should have been done in the sixth month of dog training. A manager who slipped and fell flat on his throat got shredded by the dog that had been confusion.
There are others who have been severely bitten. And still other cases where dogs safety in Guyana from security companies have bitten the leading members of the diplomatic community and even UN officials.
The security legislation is to control such things. If we do not like the control, the U.S. consultant at some point the government will show that even for the control or manipulation of dogs, a person needs special training.
Most, however, is part of the maintenance and operation of police dogs across the country, not only for security. “The context of the whole must be properly designed and well managed. Guyana Police Force has the capacity to do so,” the consultant said firmly.
Referring to the fact that the GPF had blamed the age of dogs for breaches CJIA, he said that everything has a lifecycle, and a police dog, he is six years. GPF dogs are between ten and fifteen years. Do the math and enter the health complications.
“More than this, managers must be properly trained and re-certify those dogs need to know what they are, and must be legally entitled to do so, the man said, adding that the relevant structure is not in Guyana, or the system and people ignore them.
“What the GPF should be to focus on adapting their structures,” advised the consultant. He stressed that the Commonwealth countries, their safety systems under the British after the released. While some adapted to change, some maintained the system and those who left were those that sank. Guyana is among those with the GPF, still following the guidelines established in the colonial era.
The government has undertaken a safety review last month after officials of the United States complained about a large number of suitcases filled with cocaine from Guyana intercepted in U.S. cities. One suitcase contained 50 entries pounds (23 kilograms) of cocaine.
The dog handler, Maurice Smith, said the animals – two Labradors and a German shepherd – is more effective if the agents of cocaine provided for them to feel in part of their training.

Give the puppy a break and just let it be a puppy. Proper training is good but your dog will be a natural watch dog with out any special training. His instinct will be to protect his pack (you) when it is necessary.
